Ten Tors
Working in close partnership with the Army to help meet its environmental obligations, SITA UK successfully introduced the first ever recycling scheme at the Ten Tors challenge in May 2009.
Describing the scheme as “highly educational, comprehensive, easy to use and very effective”, Captain R F McCaffrey, one of the organisers of the Ten Tors Challenge added, “The Ten Tors Challenge is one of the largest youth events in the country and naturally produces a huge amount of rubbish. SITA's professional service ensured that where possible, all items that could be recycled were recycled.”
An Education Officer and waste marshalls were on hand to answer any recycling related questions and to raise further waste awareness.
The Ten Tors competition is open to up to 400 teams of six from schools and youth organsations (such as the Scouts, Guides, youth clubs and cadet forces). Depending on the age of those taking part courses of either 35, 45 or 55 miles are completed on Dartmoor. Find out more about the 2009 Ten Tors competition.
