‘Spring has sprung’ at Cornwall’s household waste recycling centres (HWRCs)

‘Spring has sprung’ at Cornwall’s household waste recycling centres (HWRCs)

A combination of sunnier weather and the adoption of summer opening hours at Cornwall’s HWRCs have resulted in an increase in visitors to the recycling sites.

Grant Scott, Operations Manager for SITA UK in Cornwall said, “Gardens across the county appear to have been tackled with gusto now that the weather has turned more favourable. We have welcomed a lot of people to our HWRCs with their garden waste ready for composting, with many choosing to visit in the evenings, after work.”

Grant continued, “It’s great to see that so many members of the public want to recycle as much as they can, but it does mean that users may have to be patient at peak times as our overriding priority is to ensure that each site continues to operate safely and in an organised manner.”

"The St. Austell HWRC is experiencing a lot of use and due to improvement works being underway we are operating a reduced service at that site at present. We would ask people to try and use this site at quieter times and to use alternative sites where possible”, he added.

The nearest sites to St. Austell are Wheal Prosper at Lanivet (PL30 5HB) and Connon Bridge, near Liskeard (PL14 4NP).

Summer opening hours across SITA Cornwall’s twelve HWRCs allow the sites to open from 9am until 6pm, 7 days a week, with the exception of Tintagel (Bowithick) which is open 9am until 6pm Friday to Monday. Members of the public are reminded to try and use the sites at quieter times.
