£750,000 Recycling Centre opens for Bude

Bude Household Waste Recycling Centre at Tiscott Wood reopened on the 2nd November after a six-month redevelopment project. This was SITA Cornwall’s first recycling centre to be fully redeveloped as part of a £15m programme to modernise all the household waste recycling centres across Cornwall.

Bude recycling centre has a split-level system for ease of public access to the recycling containers. The lower level containers remove the need for climbing steps, making the facility safer to use. Extra space for containers allows more materials to be recycled and for the site to take new materials such as wood and cardboard.

Louis de Poncheville General Manager for SITA in Cornwall said ‘I am delighted that this site has been reopened, giving members of the public improved facilities to recycle their waste. This redevelopment will further increase recycling rates in the community and we hope it will become a valued facility for the local area.’

He continued: ‘I would like to thank residents for their patience during the refurbishment process, and for using the temporary site nearby while the main site was unavailable. The temporary site will now be closed as of 2nd November. ‘

Before the redevelopment of Bude recycling centre, the recycling rate was 47%, it is expected that with the improvements to the site this can be increased to more than 60%. The site will manage on average a throughput of 4000 tonnes of material per year.

Designated parking spaces and a one-way system have been put in place to reduce the time spent unloading and exiting the site. Disabled parking is also available and site staff on-hand to assist visitors.

SITA Cornwall would like to encourage visitors to segregate their waste before they arrive as this helps to increase the recycling rate and reduces the time visitors need to spend at the site.

All SITA Cornwall recycling centres are for householders only and do not accept trade waste. For further information on where to recycle trade waste, please contact the SITA Cornwall helpdesk on 08456 300 300.
