Don’t let half term go to waste!

SITA Cornwall’s Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) in Bodmin is opening its doors on Friday 30th October for visitors to learn more about what happens to the recyclables collected from their homes.

Tours of the recycling facility and information on managing waste responsibly will be on offer to visitors at the open day, which takes place between 9am and 3pm. There will be the opportunity to put questions to SITA Cornwall managers and to find out more about waste management in the county. Recycle for Cornwall and WRAP will also be present to provide advice on composting and waste minimisation, and to run interactive workshops.

Laura Bosworth, Education and Community Officer for SITA Cornwall, said ‘Following the success of our previous open day, we are looking forward to welcoming more Cornish residents to see exactly what happens at the MRF. The day will enable visitors to understand the processes and decisions involved in managing waste in the county and will highlight the importance of reducing, reusing and recycling materials rather than burying them in landfill. The public always have questions about recycling, and this is the ideal opportunity to have them answered’.

The MRF at Bodmin accepts the kerbside recycling from the East of Cornwall, as well as from the former district of Restormel, where it is sorted, screened, baled and sent on to be reprocessed. An impressive 98 per cent of the 25,000 tonnes of materials managed at the MRF every year is recycled.

Bodmin MRF and visitor centre is located at Bodmin Business Park, Launceston Road, Bodmin, Cornwall, PL31 2RJ. Tours will take place hourly, are open to all, and are bookable through the SITA Cornwall Helpdesk 08456 300 300 or email cornwallhelpdesk@sita.co.uk
