Hayle re-use centre moves to bigger premises

Hayle re-use centre managed by Recycling Westcountry is moving to a new location in the town. As of 1st April 2008, the re-use centre will be at:

1 Trenawin Lane
Connor Downs
Hayle
Cornwall
TR27 5JG

The Recycling Westcountry re-use centres, based in Hayle and Liskeard are treasure troves of bric-a-brac, antiques, toys, furniture and other items, which are left to be reused by visitors to SITA Cornwall’s Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs). Items are kept in safe, dry storage before being collected by Recycling Westcountry. They are then cleaned up, safety checked or repaired where necessary and sold on through the outlets to the public at very low prices.

Mark Barrett, Director of Recycling Westcountry said: ‘The re-use centre has been a great success in Hayle and we have a strong customer base in the West Cornwall area. The new premises provide a larger, long-term outlet for the re-use centre, enabling us to have a wider variety of goods on-sale. We are also looking into opening an auction room in the summer.’

Louis de Poncheville, General Manager for SITA Cornwall said: ‘'It's good news that Recycling Westcountry is expanding, as the Hayle reuse centre attracts people from all over west Cornwall and with more sales space they will be diverting even more re-useable items from landfill. When we started working in Cornwall, bric-a-brac was being sold at HWRCs. This was problematic in health and safety terms, with buyers at risk from moving vehicles. Most of the sites are very small, with no covered area to display goods, so items were getting damaged, or worse, being sold when they were unsafe. In addition, staff were drawn away from helping visitors with their recycling. The recycling centres are now running much more efficiently, and recycling has increased by 12,000 tonnes annually.'
