Household waste recycling centres move to winter opening times
From the 1st October 2009, SITA Cornwall’s Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) will move to winter opening hours. HWRCs will still open at 0900 but will then close at 1600 due to the darker evenings drawing in. The winter opening hours will be applicable until 31st March 2010.
SITA Cornwall operates 12 recycling centres across Cornwall, which allow householders to dispose of materials that aren’t accepted by kerbside collection services or recycling banks.
James Pike, General Manager for SITA UK in Cornwall, said ‘We have increased the range of materials that can be recycled at our centres. For example, people may be interested to know that they can now take used engine oil, batteries and low energy light bulbs for recycling.’
Since starting Cornwall’s integrated waste management contract in November 2006, SITA Cornwall has made major improvements to the accessibility and efficiency of HWRCs. This has been part of a £15m programme to develop recycling facilities across the county. The upgrades have helped to increase the average recycling rate at the HWRCs from 25 per cent to more than 60 per cent.
Opening times for all HWRCs:
Winter opening: 1st October – 31st March 09.00 – 16.00
The HWRCs are open seven days a week throughout the year and closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.
