Household waste recycling centres now operating on winter opening times

Residents are reminded that SITA UK's thirteen household waste recycling centres are now operating on winter opening times, accepting materials from 9am until 4pm.

All sites are open seven days a week throughout the year and closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day, except for Tintagel household waste recycling centre, which is open from Friday until Monday (inclusive). Winter opening hours run from 01 October 2011 to 31 March 2012.

Grant Scott, Operations Manager for SITA UK said: With the evenings starting to draw in, we need to make this adjustment to ensure that the public can recycle and dispose of waste safely during daylight hours.”

“Our site staff remain committed to providing excellent customer service and if any local resident needs advice about which recycling container to use, where to park up or how to safely handle the materials, for instance, then please ask the nearest member of our team,” added Grant.

The household waste recycling centres are located at Bodmin, Bude, Connon Bridge (near Liskeard), Pool, Falmouth & Penryn, Helston, Launceston, Newquay, Saltash, St Austell, St Erth, Tintagel and United Downs. They are not licensed to accept trade waste.

Tours of the Bodmin materials recycling facility

On the last Friday of each month, tours of SITA UK's materials recycling facility in Bodmin are open to the public. Visitors will get the chance to see how the items are sorted, using a mixture of sophisticated machinery and some hands on support to ensure that as much is recycled as possible.

Places are free, but do require advanced booking. If you want to come along on Friday 28 October 2011 or Friday 25 November 2011, please call the SITA Cornwall helpline on 08456 300 300. Tours will take place at several intervals between 9.30am and 2.30pm.
