Recycling centres move to winter opening hours
As of the 1st October, SITA Cornwall recycling centres move to winter opening hours due to the darker evenings drawing in. Recycling centres will still open at 0900 but will now close at 1600 and will still be open seven days a week. The winter opening hours will be operational until 31st March.
SITA Cornwall operates 10 recycling centres for householders across Cornwall. The recycling centres take a wide range of items and are an important part of the drive to increase recycling in Cornwall. In addition the sites are useful for those things that aren't accepted by collection services or bring banks.
Louis de Poncheville, General Manager of SITA Cornwall said ‘One of our main priorities is to maximise the amounts of materials that can be recycled. We would like to ask members of the public to segregate their waste before they arrive, to reduce the time they need to spend at the site. This reduces queues and also helps to increase recycling rates.’
Since starting to deliver Cornwall’s Integrated Waste Management contract, SITA Cornwall has already made major improvements in the appearance and efficiency of most recycling centres. Measures taken so far include replacing old with new skips; providing additional containers to enable the recycling of more types of material; and greater assistance by site staff to encourage the public to separate their waste.
The company’s £15m refurbishment programme for recycling centres across Cornwall, has helped achieve a rate of 52% at the recycling centres in August.
