SITA Cornwall encourages residents to jingle all the way to the household waste recycling centres
Cornish residents are being encouraged by SITA Cornwall to recycle as much as possible this Christmas, and to use the Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) during opening hours. The message comes ahead of the Christmas period during which UK householders produce an extra 3 million tonnes of rubbish, with much of this ending up in landfill sites. Phil Rudin, Regional Manager for SITA UK in Cornwall and Devon said, "One of our main priorities is to maximise the amount of waste that can be recycled. We all like to treat ourselves at Christmas, but it is important to remember to reduce, reuse and recycle as much as at any other time of the year. The HWRCs provide a vital and convenient resource for disposing of household waste and recycling." He went on to say, "There are lots of things that we can do to reduce our impact over the festive period including taking our real Christmas trees to the HWRCs to be turned into compost once the festivities are over. It is also important to recycle as much as possible including batteries from children’s toys as well as wine bottles and Christmas cards, all of which can be disposed of safely and locally in Cornwall." Over Christmas SITA Cornwall’s HWRCs will open according to the normal winter opening times; seven days a week between 09:00 – 16:00, excluding: Christmas Day: CLOSED Boxing Day: CLOSED New Year’s Day: CLOSED For any queries relating to Household Waste Recycling Centres in the county please contact the SITA Cornwall Helpdesk on 08456 300 300 or
