St Austell household waste recycling centre official opening

Working together with Cornwall Council, SITA Cornwall’s £15m programme to improve recycling facilities in Cornwall includes major development works at the St Austell household waste recycling centre in Menear Road, where a reduced service has been in operation since March.

The work is now complete at St Austell and local residents visiting the centre will benefit from an improved layout and greater space with the footprint of the site having doubled. Improved access provides better segregation between HGVs coming to collect the containers and private cars. There are better facilities for visitors, with an increased number of container bays and parking spaces, and site staff have a modern cabin with appropriate facilities.

In addition to previous recycling services offered, the site now accepts Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), so residents with old/defective equipment (such as radios, toasters, blenders and PCs) can deposit them knowing that the components and materials will be recycled as far as possible.

The site also accepts the following materials: Asbestos, batteries, bric a brac, cans, cardboard, chemicals, fridges and freezers, fluorescent tubes, gas bottles, glass, green waste, general waste, metal, oil, paper, plastic bottles, rubble, textiles, TVs and monitors, tyres and wood. The site is not licensed for commercial waste and will not accept commercial waste.
