Waste management company creates new jobs in Cornwall
Since beginning its integrated waste contract with Cornwall County Council in November 2006, SITA Cornwall has created 12 new managerial and administrative positions to improve its operations in the county.
The new posts are based in, among others, the departments of human resources, administration, customer relations, education, product analysis and environmental compliance. The addition of the new posts will ensure that SITA Cornwall’s day-to-day operations and relationship with the community continue to run smoothly as the contract develops.
Anna Dalziel, Human Resources manager said: ‘The creation of these new roles within Cornwall is great news for the county. As a Cornish graduate I am aware of the difficulties in finding gainful employment locally and working with SITA Cornwall has allowed me to pursue my career within the county. I am looking forward to further growth and development of the team in Cornwall.’
One of the new recruits, Leroy Chandler, Education Officer said: ‘Having left Cornwall to study at university, I am very happy to be back in the county working for SITA Cornwall, which is putting responsible and innovative ideas at the core of its operations. Although I only joined a month ago, I already feel a part of a committed and friendly team at SITA Cornwall, and look forward to showing the public what actually happens when their household waste is recycled.’
In addition to the new management and administration positions, increased amounts of materials being brought for recycling at the recycling centres have increased the need for site staff to help customers to sort their waste more carefully to ensure as much as possible is recycled. This has created additional posts for site operatives and 14 new drivers have been employed to take recyclable materials for reprocessing.
Louis de Poncheville, General Manager for SITA in Cornwall said: ‘’To deliver a consistently high standard of service there is a real need to harness everyone’s skills and contributions; from delivering good customer services at the recycling centres to ensuring that each of the decisions we make as a company take into account our impact on the social and natural environments. “We are developing a strong team in Cornwall and I hope we will achieve many good things for the county in the years ahead.’
