Winter opening times

From the 1st October, SITA Cornwall household waste recycling centres (HWRCs) will move to winter opening hours. HWRCs will still open at 0900 but will now close at 1600 due to the darker evenings drawing in. The winter opening hours will be operational until 31st March 2009.

SITA Cornwall is now operating 12 recycling centres across Cornwall, which are useful for householders to dispose of those things that aren’t accepted by kerbside collection services or recycling banks.

Louis de Poncheville, General Manager of SITA Cornwall said ‘One of our main priorities is to maximise the amount of waste that can be recycled. In addition to the usual range of materials that can be brought in for recycling, you can now also recycle batteries, fluorescent tubes, gas bottles and oil at all our recycling centres.’

Since starting to deliver Cornwall’s Integrated Waste Management contract in November 2006, SITA Cornwall has made major improvements in the appearance and efficiency of HWRCs as part of a £15m programme to develop recycling facilities across the county. The average recycling rate at the HWRCs has increased from 25% to more than 60 per cent.

Opening times for all HWRCs:
Winter opening: 1st October – 31st March 9.00am – 4.00pm
Summer opening: 1st April – 30th September 9.00am – 6.00pm

The HWRCs are open seven days a week, closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day.
